Karl Schawelka

Prof. Dr. Karl Schawelka, was born 1944 in Fürth/Germany. After having studied Fine Arts from 1964 -1971 in Nuremberg and Munich, he turned to History of Art. 1978 he received his PhD, 1990 his Habilitation. He has taught at Munich, Erlangen, Kassel and - since 1993 - as Prof. for ‚History and Theory of Art’ in the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus-University in Weimar/Germany, where he has been Dean several times. He is also head of the German Colour-Center. He has written numerous books and articles on topics like modern and contemporary art, theory of art, perception (especially perception of colour) and art in public spaces.
